Parallels and Convergences: Mormon Thought and Engineering Vision

David H. Bailey:

David H. Bailey is the Chief Technologist of the Computational Research Department at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. He received his B.S. in mathematics from Brigham Young University, and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Stanford University. Bailey has published three books and over 100 technical papers in the general area of high-performance scientific computing and computational mathematics. He has also published some papers in the area of science and religion.

Lincoln Cannon:

Lincoln has fourteen years of professional experience in information technology, working primarily as a manager and engineer for companies in the systems management industry, such as Symantec and Novell. He holds a masters degree in business administration and a bachelors degree in philosophy from Brigham Young University. He served a mission to France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is married with Dorothée Vankrieckenge, a French national, and is father to three bilingual children. Lincoln is president of the Mormon Transhumanist Association.

Adam N. Davis:

Dr. Davis has a Ph.D. in physics from Case Western Reserve University earned in 2005. He worked at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln as an instructor of physics and astronomy and currently teaches physics as an assistant professor at Wayne State College. He is a staunch materialist with a deep interest in the physics and cosmology of Mormonism.

Roger D. Hansen:

Roger D. Hansen has a PhD from Utah State University in Civil and Environmental Engineering (with a specialty in Water Resources and Hydrology).  He has an undergraduate degree in History from BYU.   He has worked for 29 years for the U.S. Government as a technology specialist (watershed instrumentation) and water resource planner.  Roger is obsessed with travel and hits the road every chance he gets, traveling frequently to southern Utah and Africa.  His website (http://www.rogerhansen.org) is titled “Tired Road Warrior” and that explains a lot about his current emotional status.  He loves the Book of Ecclesiastes and the cable TV show Dexter.  Roger is on the board of the local SLC Chapter of Engineers without Borders.

A. Scott Howe:

A. Scott Howe has degrees from University of Utah, University of Michigan, and University of Hong Kong. Scott is a registered architect in California and Oregon with five years practice with BWLC Architects in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and ten years practice with Kajima Corporation in Tokyo, Japan. He spent three years as an assistant professor at University of Oregon, and six years as an assistant professor at Hong Kong University. He is currently a Senior Systems Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he is a member of the Constellation architecture team for the Lunar outpost. Allen W. Leigh:

Allen W. Leigh is a software engineer and Adjunct Instructor in Computer Science, retired after a career of 44 years. He holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University and a MS degree in Computer Information Systems from Boston University. He is the author of One Mormon's View of the Science- Religion Debate and Quest for Eternity. William R. Pickett:

William Pickett is a Senior Hardware Engineer and the Range Master at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Mesa Antenna Range (http://mesa.jpl.nasa.gov).  He has worked for JPL as an employee and contractor for the past 40 years.  Prior to JPL William worked for North American Aviation / Rockwell on the Apollo program. Other work experience includes Autonetics, Hughes-Ground Systems Group, IBM, GE, Martin-Marietta and Lockheed–Martin. He attended Fullerton College and California State College Fullerton’s EE program.  He is a member of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association and an active member of his ward and stake in Pasadena.  William is a California and Los Angeles County native and enjoys genealogy and live steam locomotives.  He retired once and looks forward to doing it again.

Joseph West:

Joseph West Jr. is a founding member, director and secretary of the Mormon Transhumanist Association. He is the father of two children, and the husband and lover of their mother, Jessica. He is a graduate student in sociology at the University of Arizona where he is working towards a PhD. His primary research interests include religion, culture, technology and the family. He holds a bachelors degree in philosophy from the University of Utah.

Carl Youngblood:

Carl Youngblood has over ten years of professional experience in software engineering. He received a bachelors degree in Portuguese from Brigham Young University and a masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington. Carl is actively involved in the open source software community, having founded Confreaks, LLC as a way of preserving the proceedings of many events in that community. He is an avid technology enthusiast and serves as a director of the Mormon Transhumanist Association. Carl lives in South Jordan, UT with his wife and four children.
